Lady's smock / Cuckoo flower / Blodyn Llaeth / Blodyn y gog / Cardamine pratensis
Flowers April - June
This plant seems originally to have been called Our Lady's smock. It has about a score of Welsh names - I've picked the two that seem most common. It grows in abundance in damp meadows throughout most of Britain. I was therefore astounded to see that conservationists want to scatter the seed of it around on the grounds that it's becoming scarce ! It can sometimes be seen flowering much later than its usual flowering season. This specimen was photographed in Parc Bryn Bach, Blaenau Gwent. |
