Everlasting pea / Ytbysen fythol / Ytbysen barhaus / Lathyrus sylvestris

Flowers June - September

wild pea
This showy plant straggles its way up and through other growth by means of tendrils and is the nearest wild flower in appearance to the garden sweet pea. The large seed pods, when ripe, contain many purple 'peas'. It's fairly common in hedgerows but I came across this specimen on southern sea cliffs in Cornwall.

'Everlasting', as applied to flowers, usually means that they can be dried and kept for many years without shrivelling or otherwiswe changing their appearance, but that doesn't look likely with this flower.
