Alfie taught English, maths, Latin and history at QE for 35 years (1947-82). I had him for English and Maths and he really had it in for me - not for bad behaviour but for doing very little homework. I remember him spluttering and shaking with red-faced rage as he announced to the highly amused class that I'd scored 1% in the mock O-level maths exam - for spelling my name correctly.
