ONLINE MUSEUM: Harrisons House, mid 1950s
(No enlargements available due to quality of image)
This picture was kindly contributed by Nigel Palmer via James Cowen. Nigel is fairly sure that it is of Harrisons House in its first year of existence 1954/55,
with the front row of boys in their first year, aged 11/12, the middle and back rows consisting of older boys transferred from
the other four Houses. Nigel, who is included in the picture (5th from left in the front row) has come up with a good deal of the names:
BACK: 1) Whiteley 2) Simpson 3) ?? 4) ?? 5) ?? 6) Blindell 7) Vice? 8) Snazell 9) ?? 10) Embleton 11) Blackmore 12) Logsdon 13) Moseley? 14) ?? 15) Horner 16) Stern
MIDDLE: 1) Borrow 2) Hider 3) Powter* 4) Lambell 5) Housemaster Bernie Pinnock 6) Featherstone 7) Bellingham 8) Hartley 9) Henderson? 10) Harrison
*Powter later became Hamill. I remember his announcing to me, on the way to school, that his mother had just re-married
FRONT: 1) Daniels 2) Morris 3) Woodford 4) Biggs 5) Palmer 6) Gregory 7) Hill 8) Serlin 9) Little
The lack of an apostrophe is not a mistake - the house was named after TWO unrelated former masters called Harrison
