Following on from the recent obituary threads I would like to record the death of my brother John Cowen (at QEs 1958 to 1962) on 22nd January 2015. He died at home and it was sudden in the sense he had not been known to be ill at all. The date of a funeral has yet to be arranged. He came to the last two Founders Day events at the school after my invitation for him to do so. I am letting the OE membership secretary Alan King know. He had 5 children, who are saddened in grief as is the rest of the family. After leaving school after O Levels John's career was in farming and building construction and he had recently started to ride a motorbike once more. He kept fit by cycling and running with one of his daughters.

The service of remembrance for my brother John Cowen has now been set as at All Saints C of E church in Shenley Road in Borehamwood on 26th February at 11.30 a.m. My nephew and John's eldest son is due to give a eulogy. After, there is a cremation at West Herts crematorium followed by a wake at the Noke in St Albans. Any who may be wanting to attend are welcome to do so.

Thank you for your condolences, Stephen and Nigel. Further messages of sympathy continue to come in from people on Facebook as well as past and recent photos, one even of us both as young boys. We both looked very different then but maybe still a bit recognisable (???????).

The funeral service for my brother did take place on 26th February and there were over 200 in the church and over 140 at the reception afterwards. His coffin was taken to the crematorium on a sidecar pulled by a Triumph motor bike and it was quite a sight moving down Shenley Road behind a funeral director gent with a top hat, as the traffic slowed behind. Mind you traffic along Shenley Road is usually slow or static with all the pedestrians crossing over! It was good to be able to talk with so many who came.
